In late 2013, the Community Foundation of Western Nevada began the Youth Network Initiative (You'N-I), a dialogue addressing the needs of youth who are unattached or at-risk. Many youth emphasized the importance of having caring adult role models in their lives.
Oftentimes, a mentor is the one person in a child or youth's life who can make a difference.
While there are many great youth mentoring organizations in northern Nevada, several have a shortage of mentors. This means that waiting lists for young people hoping to be paired with a mentor are long. Nevada Mentors was formed to be a central location for potential mentors to find the information they need about mentoring, as well as be matched with the program that is right for them.
